About

'I want to prove farm to fork really is possible'

David Howden is no stranger to the demanding world of hospitality.  His passion for friends, food and sustainable farming culminated in the creation of The Pointer in Brill, which was recognised as the 2018 Michelin Pub of the Year.  It’s this passion, and a determination to prove that farm to fork is in fact possible, that has enabled him to create special hospitality ventures which focus on great food wrapped in an atmosphere of warmth and fun.

Dave’s Wine Bar is not just another City establishment: its uniqueness comes across through its pairing of good wine with local and seasonal food that is always traceable, often back to David’s own Cornbury House Farm in Oxfordshire.  Championing British produce and provenance from outstanding local suppliers, the wine bar will adopt a modern approach to classic British dishes that will inspire a combination of nostalgia and excitement for customers.

Our Team

David founded Howden, the international insurance group, in 1994, and, after what now totals four decades working in London, he is set on giving back to the City that fostered his growth by sharing his other passion with the London community and contributing to its buzz.  With a capable and inspiring team already running a significant internal hospitality operation and guided by his company’s ‘People First’ motto, David sees a golden opportunity to build and strengthen the insurance community, whilst simultaneously sharing his passion for food and provenance.
